History
Founded in 1777
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Camden was created from St. Thomas Parish and St. Mary Parish in 1777 and named after Charles Pratt, 1st Earl Camden. The county experienced several boundary changes over the next century, losing and gaining land to Wayne County multiple times, and losing territory to the creation of Charlton County in 1854 and Glynn County in 1858.
