History

Founded in 1818

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Gwinnett County was created from Non-County Area on December 15, 1818, and gained territory from Jackson County just four days later. Over the following decades, the county exchanged land with neighboring counties including Hall, Jackson, and Walton, and lost territory to the creation of DeKalb County in 1822.
