History
Formed in 1857 from Dooly County, Irwin County and Pulaski County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Wilcox County was created on December 22, 1857 from Dooly, Irwin, and Pulaski counties. Over the following decades, the county exchanged and adjusted its boundaries with neighboring counties, particularly Irwin and Pulaski, through various additions and transfers of land parcels. In 1906, Wilcox County lost territory to the creation of Turner County on January 1, and lost additional territory to the creation of Ben Hill County on November 6, as well as a small area to Irwin County.
