History

Founded in 1803

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Baldwin County was created from non-county area in 1803 and gained additional territory from non-county area in 1806. In 1807, Baldwin County gained land from Hancock and exchanged with Wilkinson, while also losing territory to the creation of Jones, Morgan, Putnam, and Randolph (originally Jasper). The county received additional gains from Washington County in 1812 and 1826, and from Jones and Wilkinson in 1856 and 1872.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
