History

Formed in 1793 from Burke County, Effingham County and Liberty County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Screven County was created from Burke, Effingham, and Liberty counties. Five days after its creation, Screven County lost territory to the creation of Bryan County, and in 1796 it lost more territory to the creation of Bulloch County. In 1905, Screven County lost additional territory to the creation of Jenkins County.
