History

Founded in 1818

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Hall County was created on December 15, 1818, from non-county area and gained territory from Franklin and Jackson counties shortly after. The county exchanged land with Gwinnett County in 1819 and experienced boundary adjustments through the 1850s with neighboring Cherokee, Habersham, and Lumpkin counties.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries; the 5 that matter most are shown first.
