History

Formed in 1789 from Fayette County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Woodford County was created by Virginia in 1789 from Fayette County. When Kentucky became a state in 1792, Woodford became a Kentucky county. The county lost territory to Scott County in 1792 and to Franklin County in 1795. In 1886, Woodford gained a small area from Fayette County.
