History

Formed in 1780 from Kentucky County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Fayette County was created by Virginia from Kentucky County in 1780. In 1792, when Kentucky became a state, Fayette became one of its counties. The county lost land to the creation of Bourbon County in 1786, Woodford County in 1789, Clark County in 1793, and Jessamine County in 1799.
