History

Formed in 1798 from Mason County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Fleming County was created from Mason County in 1798. Over the following decades, Fleming lost territory to the creation of Floyd County in 1800 and Rowan County in 1856, though it gained a small area from Mason County in 1888.
