History

Formed in 1836 from Cumberland County and Wayne County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Clinton County was created on April 1, 1836, from Cumberland County and Wayne County. In 1841, the county gained a small area from Russell County to accommodate a local property owner, but this was reversed in 1868.
