History

Formed in 1786 from Fayette County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Bourbon County was created by Virginia in 1786 from Fayette County. The county became part of Kentucky when the state was created in 1792. Over its early years, Bourbon County lost territory to the creation of Mason, Clark, Harrison, and Nicholas counties.
