History

Formed in 1797 from Campbell County and Mason County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Bracken County was created on June 1, 1797, from Campbell and Mason counties and named after William Bracken. The county's boundaries changed many times, losing land to the creation of Pendleton County in 1799 and Robertson County in 1867, and to Harrison County through several adjustments between 1820 and 1864.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries; the 5 that matter most are shown first.
