History

Formed in 1799 from Shelby County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Henry County was created from Shelby County in 1799 and named after Patrick Henry. The county's boundaries changed several times: it lost territory to the creation of Oldham County in 1824, to Franklin County in 1827, and to the creation of Trimble County in 1837, though it gained back territory from Trimble County later.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries; the 5 that matter most are shown first.
