History

Formed in 1802 from Green County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Adair County was created from Green County in 1802 and named after John Adair. The county has undergone several boundary changes since its formation, including losses to the creation of Russell, Metcalfe, and Casey counties, and gains from Cumberland and Barren counties.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries; the 5 that matter most are shown first.
