History

Formed in 1797 from Clark County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Montgomery County was created from Clark County in 1797 and named after Richard Montgomery. Over its first seventy years, Montgomery County lost territory to the creation of Floyd, Madison, Bath, Estill, and Powell counties, and to expansions of neighboring counties.
