History

Formed in 1807 from Lincoln County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Casey County was created from Lincoln County on May 4, 1807, and named after a Colonel. The county's boundaries changed multiple times: it lost land to Lincoln in 1808 and 1843, to Mercer in 1821, and to Boyle in 1878 and 1888, while gaining territory from Adair in 1827 and 1844, and from Russell in 1864.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries; the 5 that matter most are shown first.
