History
Formed in 1827 from Franklin County, Mercer County and Washington County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Anderson County was created on January 20, 1827, from parts of Franklin, Mercer, and Washington counties. The county was named after Richard Clough Anderson, Jr. Over the following decades, Anderson gained small areas from Franklin, Mercer, and Washington to accommodate local property owners, with one loss to Mercer in 1890.
