History

Formed in 1799 from Hardin County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Ohio County was created from Hardin County on July 1, 1799, and was named after the Ohio River. The county lost territory over the following decades as new counties were created from its land, including Henderson in 1809, Butler in 1810 and 1871, Grayson in 1810, Daviess in 1815 and 1830, Hancock in 1829, Breckinridge in 1831, and McLean in 1854.
