History

Formed in 1860 from Adair County, Barren County, Cumberland County, Green County and Monroe County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Metcalfe County was created from Adair, Barren, Cumberland, Green, and Monroe counties. The county's boundaries were adjusted several times in the decades following its creation, with small areas exchanged with neighboring Barren and Cumberland counties to accommodate local property owners.
