History
Founded in 1841
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Originally called Nodaway, the county was created from Non-County Area 31 on January 29, 1841, and renamed Holt two weeks later. In 1843, territory was lost to the creation of Allen County, which was then attached to Holt for administrative purposes until Allen was fully organized and detached in 1845.
