History

Formed in 1841 from Morgan County and Pulaski County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Originally named Kinderhook when created on January 29, 1841, from Morgan County and Pulaski County, it was renamed Camden in 1843. The county is named after Charles Pratt, 1st Earl Camden. Over several decades, Camden County experienced boundary changes with neighboring Miller County and lost territory to the creation of Laclede County in 1849.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries; the 5 that matter most are shown first.
