History

Formed in 1835 from Greene County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Taney County was created from Greene County on March 19, 1835, but was not fully organized until January 6, 1837, when it was detached from Greene for civil and military purposes. Over the following decades, Taney's boundaries changed through several boundary adjustments: it lost territory to the creation of Ozark County in 1841, Stone County in 1851, Christian County in 1859, and Douglas County in 1864, while also gaining and losing small parcels to and from Greene County.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries; the 5 that matter most are shown first.
