History
Founded in 1854
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Richardson County was created by proclamation of the acting governor of Nebraska Territory from non-county area on November 23, 1854. In March 1855, the county gained most of the Half-Breed Tract and received territory from Forney County, though it lost land to the creation of Gage, Nemaha, and Pawnee Counties. An overlap area between Nemaha and Richardson was eliminated in 1873 when both counties' boundaries were redefined, giving Richardson undisputed control.
