History
Formed in 1839 from Livingston County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Grundy County was created from Non-County Area 18 on February 12, 1839, and initially attached to Livingston County for civil, judicial, and military purposes. The county was fully organized and detached from Livingston County on January 29, 1841. In 1843, Grundy County lost its attached territory to the creation of Mercer County, though Mercer remained attached to Grundy for civil and military purposes until its own full organization in 1845.
