History
Founded in 1833
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Lewis County was created from Non-County Area 10 in 1833, with Non-County Area 19 attached to it for all civil, judicial, and military purposes. Between 1836 and 1841, the county lost territory as Clark County, Macon County, and Scotland County were created from its attached non-county areas. In 1841, Lewis County lost the remaining Non-County Area 19 to the creation of Scotland County.
