History
Formed in 1847 from Newton County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Created in 1847 from Newton County as Seneca, the county was not initially fully organized and remained attached to Newton for civil and military purposes. In 1849, Seneca was renamed McDonald, fully organized, and detached from Newton, and the county was named after Alexander McDonald.
