History

Founded in 1812

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

St. Charles District was created on October 1, 1804, as one of five districts by the District of Louisiana, encompassing a vast area between the Mississippi River and the Rocky Mountains that included all or part of six present states. The District of Louisiana was renamed Louisiana Territory in 1805, and St. Charles District became a district within it; the territory was then renamed Missouri Territory in 1812. By the end of 1813, St. Charles County had lost virtually all its territory to non-county areas in Missouri Territory.
