History
Founded in 1841
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Dade County was created from non-county areas on January 29, 1841. In 1843, Dade lost territory to the creation of Lawrence County, though Lawrence was not fully organized at first and parts were attached to Barry and Dade for civil and military purposes. In 1845, Dade lost more territory to the creation of Cedar County, and Lawrence County was fully organized and detached from Dade.
