History

Formed in 1855 from Greene County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Webster County was created from Greene County on March 3, 1855, and named after Daniel Webster. The county gained additional land from Dallas and Greene Counties in December 1855, but lost territory to the creation of Christian County in 1859 and to Douglas County in 1864.
