History
Formed in 1842 from Scott County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Mississippi County was created from Scott County in 1842 but was not fully organized at first, remaining attached to Scott County for all civil, criminal, and military purposes. The county was fully organized and detached from Scott County in 1845, though it underwent several boundary exchanges with Scott County and New Madrid County through 1868.
