History
Formed in 1855 from Forney County and Richardson County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Nemaha County was created by Nebraska Territory in 1855 from Forney (now extinct), Richardson County, and a small part of the Half-Breed Tract. In 1857, the county gained land from Pawnee County but lost territory to the newly created Johnson County. An overlap area with Richardson County was eliminated in 1873 when both counties' boundaries were redefined.
