History

Formed in 1822 from New Madrid County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Scott County was created from New Madrid on March 1, 1822. The county gained and lost territory several times over its early decades, including from Cape Girardeau, Wayne, Mississippi, and Stoddard counties.
