History
Formed in 1837 from Chariton County and Carroll County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Livingston County was created on January 6, 1837, from Chariton County and parts of Carroll County. The county was named after Edward Livingston. Early boundary adjustments transferred territory to Linn and Grundy counties, with Livingston regaining land from Linn County in 1855.
