History
Formed in 1841 from Ripley County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Ozark County was created on January 29, 1841, from Ripley County. The county was renamed Decatur in 1843, then renamed back to Ozark in 1845. Over the following decades, Ozark County lost territory to the creation and expansion of neighboring counties: Greene County in 1855, Douglas County in 1857, and Howell County in 1879.
