History
Formed in 1835 from St. Clair County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Benton County was created on January 3, 1835, from St. Clair County, Non-County Area 16, and Non-County Area 20. Over the following decades, the county lost territory to the creation of several new counties: Hickory in 1845, Pettis in 1845, and through transfers to Kinderhook (now Camden) in 1841 and St. Clair in 1879.
