History
Formed in 1841 from Ripley County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Oregon County was created from Ripley County on February 15, 1841, but remained unorganized and attached to Ripley for civil and military purposes until 1845. The county was named after Oregon Territory. Oregon County lost territory to the creation of Howell County in 1857 and to Shannon County in 1859, and exchanged territory with Ripley County in 1868.
