History
Formed in 1845 from Shannon County and Wayne County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Reynolds County was created from Shannon and Wayne counties on February 25, 1845. The county was named after Thomas Reynolds. Its boundaries changed multiple times: it gained territory from Madison and Wayne in 1849, lost land to the creation of Iron County in 1857, exchanged territory with Dent and Shannon in 1868 and 1872, and gained land from Carter, Dent, and Shannon while exchanging with Wayne and losing to Iron in 1872.
