History
Formed in 1835 from Greene County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Barry County was created from Greene County on January 5, 1835. Within months, on March 14, 1835, it lost territory to the creation of Polk County. Over the following years, the county lost additional areas to the creation of Newton, Dade, and Lawrence counties, though parts of these new counties were temporarily attached to Barry for civil and military purposes until they were fully organized.
