History

Formed in 1833 from Cooper County and Crawford County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Morgan County was created from Cooper and Crawford counties on January 5, 1833. Within weeks of its creation, Morgan County contributed land to the formation of Pulaski County on January 19, 1833, and Pettis County on January 26, 1833, but gained territory back from Pulaski County two years later. Over the following decades, Morgan County lost additional territory to the creation of Camden County in 1841, Moniteau County in 1845, and Miller County in 1860.
