History
Formed in 1819 from St. Charles County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Montgomery County was created in 1819 from St. Charles County, with an attached Non-County Area for judicial and administrative purposes. In 1821, part of the attached area was lost to the creation of Callaway County, and the remainder was detached from Montgomery and attached to Callaway. The county lost additional territory to the creation of Warren County in 1833 and to Lincoln County in 1849.
