History

Formed in 1857 from Ozark County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Douglas County was created from Ozark County on October 29, 1857. The county gained territory from Webster County in 1864 and from Taney County later that year. In 1870, Douglas County lost land to Texas County, but regained territory from Texas County two years later in 1872.
