History

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Monroe County was created from Ralls County and Non-County Area 10 on January 6, 1831. The county lost territory over the following years: Non-County Area 17 went to Audrain County in 1831, land went to Shelby County in 1843, and additional territory was lost to Marion and Audrain Counties in 1843.
