History
Formed in 1829 from Lenawee County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
St. Joseph County was created by Michigan Territory on October 29, 1829, from Non-County Area 1 attached to Lenawee County. The county was named after the St. Joseph River. It was fully organized on November 4, 1829, with several counties and areas attached to it for administrative and judicial purposes, but most were detached by 1830 as those counties were organized.
