History

Formed in 1840 from Michilimackinac County, Mackinac County and Saginaw County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Oscoda County was created on April 1, 1840, from Michilimackinac County (now Mackinac County) and Non-County Area 2 attached to Saginaw County, but was not fully organized and was attached to Michilimackinac County for judicial purposes. Between 1853 and 1858, Oscoda County was successively attached to Cheboygan County, Alpena County, and Iosco County for judicial and municipal purposes. In 1869, Oscoda County was attached to Alcona County for judicial and other purposes, and was fully organized and detached from Alcona County on March 10, 1881.
