History
Formed in 1829 from Lenawee County and Oakland County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Calhoun County was created by Michigan Territory on October 29, 1829, from parts of Lenawee and Oakland counties. The county was named after John C. Calhoun. Calhoun was attached to St. Joseph County for administrative purposes in 1829, then to Kalamazoo County in 1830, and finally became fully organized and independent in 1833.
