History

Formed in 1843 from Michilimackinac County and Mackinac County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Delta County was created from Michilimackinac County in 1843 but was not fully organized and was attached to Michilimackinac for judicial purposes. In 1861, Delta gained territory from Schoolcraft County and became fully organized and detached from Mackinac County. From 1923 to 1936, Delta County was involved in a boundary dispute with Wisconsin over islands in Green Bay, which was resolved by the U.S. Supreme Court in Delta's favor in 1936.
