History

Formed in 1861 from Houghton County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Keweenaw County was created from Houghton County on March 11, 1861. In 1875, Isle Royale was separated from Keweenaw, then reunited with it in 1897 when Isle Royale County was eliminated.
