History

Formed in 1831 from Saginaw County, Oakland County and Kalamazoo County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Midland County was created in 1831 from parts of Saginaw, Oakland, and Kalamazoo counties. The county remained unorganized and attached to Saginaw for judicial purposes until 1855, when it was fully organized and detached from Saginaw. Over the following decades, several counties were created from Midland's territory: Bay County in 1857, and Gladwin, Isabella, Roscommon, and Clare were fully organized and separated from Midland between 1859 and 1875.
