History
Formed in 1829 from Oakland County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Eaton County was created by Michigan Territory from Non-County Area 2 attached to Oakland on October 29, 1829, but was not fully organized or attached to any county at that time. It was temporarily attached to St. Joseph County for administrative and judicial purposes starting November 4, 1829, then detached and attached to Kalamazoo County on October 1, 1830. Eaton County was fully organized and detached from Kalamazoo County on December 29, 1837.
