History

Formed in 1840 from Michilimackinac County, Mackinac County and Saginaw County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Originally named Mikenauk when created from Michilimackinac County, it was renamed Roscommon in 1843, after County Roscommon. The county was attached to other counties for judicial purposes until it was fully organized and detached from Midland County in 1875.
